Best United Credit Cards of 2026

The four Chase United cards, from free to Club, matched to how often you fly.

Chase issues the full United MileagePlus lineup, and the cards ladder neatly: Gateway for free, Explorer for the basics, Quest for frequent flyers, and Club for lounge regulars. Cardholders also see expanded saver award space that non-cardholders never see, which quietly makes every card more valuable. All four count against the Chase 5/24 rule.

Best overall

United Explorer Card card art
Bonus: 60,000 pts (≈$720)Annual fee: $150Credit: 700+

2x United purchases, dining, hotels

1x All other purchases

Why we chose it

The Explorer is the right card for most United flyers. A free checked bag, priority boarding, two United Club passes a year, and a Global Entry credit cover the $150 fee with room to spare. It is the default answer unless you fly United a lot or barely at all.

Best for frequent flyers

United Quest Card card art
Bonus: 90,000 pts (≈$1,080)Annual fee: $350Credit: 700+

3x United purchases

2x Dining and select streaming

2x All other travel

Why we chose it

The Quest layers travel credits and anniversary award flight credits on top of Explorer-style perks for $350. Fly United several times a year and the credits alone can outrun the fee. It also earns PQP toward status faster than the cheaper cards.

Best premium

United Club Card card art
Bonus: 90,000 pts (≈$1,080)Annual fee: $695Credit: 740+

4x United purchases

2x All other travel and dining

1x All other purchases

Why we chose it

The Club card is a United Club membership with a credit card attached. Full lounge access for you and your family on every United itinerary justifies the $695 fee if you would buy the membership anyway. Free first and second checked bags sweeten it further.

Best no fee

United Gateway Card card art
Bonus: 20,000 pts (≈$240)Annual fee: $0Credit: 670+

2x United purchases

2x Gas stations and local transit

1x All other purchases

Why we chose it

The Gateway is the free entry point. It earns 2x on United purchases and gas, and it still unlocks the expanded award availability cardholders get. It is also the natural downgrade target that preserves your credit line when an Explorer fee stops making sense.

The Bottom Line

Match the card to your flight count. A few United trips a year means the Explorer, a near-monthly habit means the Quest, and lounge-every-trip travelers should just buy the Club card. Everyone else can hold the Gateway for free and keep the better award space. Check your 5/24 standing before any of them.
